The University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS), Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), hosted a significant academic meeting on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to explore and strengthen international academic collaboration with Millersville University, United States of America. The event marked a key milestone in UITS’s ongoing efforts to foster global academic partnerships. The meeting commenced with a warm reception for Professor Dr. Dan Kulmala, Assistant Vice President for International Programs & Global Engagement at Millersville University. He was formally welcomed by Professor Dr. Md. Abu Hashan Bhuiyan, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of UITS; Professor Dr. Siraj Uddin Ahmed, Treasurer; Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, Registrar of UITS and Engineer Md. Safaet Hossain, Director of IQAC.
During his visit, Professor Dr. Dan Kulmala engaged in focused discussions with representatives from the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Business Studies, and English.
The session with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Al Imtiaz, Head of the Department and Chair of the Program Self-Assessment Committee (PSAC). Senior faculty members and PSAC representatives participated in the meeting, which was further supported by the Director and Additional Director of IQAC. Discussions primarily revolved around postgraduate academic opportunities, including Master’s programs in Information Technology, Data Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Technology, and Innovation. Prospective collaborations such as joint and dual degree programs, as well as faculty and student exchange initiatives, were also explored.
In the meeting with the Department of Business Studies, Dr. Farooq Hossan, Dean of the Faculty of Business, offered the formal welcome. The session included the active participation of Dr. Mahadi Hasan, Head of the Department and Chair of the PSAC, along with senior faculty and PSAC members. The Director and Additional Director of IQAC were also present. Professor Kulmala elaborated on relevant Master’s programs of Entrepreneurship, Technology, and Innovation at Millersville University and emphasized the value of international academic cooperation in promoting knowledge exchange, intercultural learning, and enhanced global engagement for both students and faculty.
The Department of English meeting was initiated by Syeda Afsana Ferdousi, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Naima Afrin, Head of the Department and Chair of the PSAC, along with key academic personnel and IQAC leadership, participated in the discussions. Professor Kulmala presented an overview of Millersville University’s academic offerings, particularly in Information Technology and Data Analytics, and discussed avenues for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Throughout the sessions, Professor Kulmala expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by UITS. He outlined the objectives of his visit and proposed several areas of academic cooperation, including student and faculty exchange programs and the development of joint degree pathways. The meetings concluded on a positive note, with a shared commitment to strengthening institutional ties and collaboratively pursuing the proposed initiatives in the near future.
