University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS), the first IT-based private university in Bangladesh was founded on 7 August 2003 as a non-profit organization. INFORMATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION LTD. (ISTS), a concern of PHP group headed by Alhaj Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury is the sponsor of UITS.

University of Information Technology & Sciences (UITS) became the ‘Champion’ of BASIS National ICT Awards 2018 from the Student Categories (HC-S) – (Undergraduate) and nominated for representing Bangladesh in the ‘Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technology Alliance (APICTA) Awards’ at Guangzhou, China.
APICTA Awards is one of the most prestigious awards not only in Asia, but the whole world. Telecommunications and Information Technology (ICT) Minister Mustafa Jabbar was present at the award giving ceremony as the chief guest and State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak was there as special guest. BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir, Sham Shundor Shikdar, secretary of the Posts and Telecommunication Department, and Zuena Aziz, secretary of the ICT Division, were also present at the ceremony, among others.
Md. Isha Hammam and Mst. Tasmia Akter were participated from UITS with their Augmented Reality based mobile application, titled ‘Shobjanta’. This young and innovative team conducted their research under the guidance of their mentor and UITS Computer Club moderator Mr. Al Imtiaz, Assistant Professor and Head of Department of IT, UITS. The team is conducting their research for bringing Augmented Reality (AR) technology in the most usable way for industrial applications. They already successfully developed a working prototype for this purpose.
Among 653 submissions, total 76 projects were awarded in over 30 categories at that event for their outstanding contribution to the ICT sector, and 33 champions were declared. Among those 33 winners, 32 will participate at the APICTA Awards-2018, to be held in Guangzhou, China from October 9-13, 2018.
BASIS National ICT Awards is a national award giving ceremony of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and organizing since 2017.
