The University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), and Department of Information Technology (IT), successfully hosted the NASA Space Apps Challenge Bangladesh Activation Webinar on September 2, 2024. The event, held from 8 PM to 9 PM, attracted a significant number of participants eager to learn more about the global hackathon and explore potential involvement.
The NASA Space Apps Challenge is a renowned international event that brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds to address real-world challenges related to space exploration. Organized by the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), in conjunction with BASIS Students’ Forum and Cloud Camp Bangladesh, this local event is part of a larger global initiative hosted by NASA. The 48-hour hackathon, taking place in over 350 cities worldwide, focuses on fostering innovation and promoting accessibility to space exploration and science opportunities. The National Hack-a-Thon is organized from October 4 – October 5, 2024 simultaneously all over the world. The 2024 NASA International Space Apps Challenge theme is “The Sun Touches Everything!” At Space Apps, we strive to eliminate barriers of access to space and science opportunities.
Distinguished speakers who graced the occasion included: Biplob Ghosh Rahul (Director, BASIS), Abhijit Bhowmik (Convener, NASA Space Apps Challenge Bangladesh), Mohammad Mahdee Uz Zaman (Advisor, NASA Space Apps Challenge Bangladesh), Toufiq Elahi Plabon (Assistant Manager, Events & Communication, BASIS), Engineer Md. Safaet Hossain (Director, IQAC & Associate Professor, CSE Department, UITS), Al Imtiaz (Associate Professor & Head, CSE Department, UITS), and Professor Dr. Md. Ashraful Islam (Dean, Faculty of Science & Engineering, UITS). Approximately 100 students actively participated in the session, engaging in insightful discussions and presentations moderated by Engineer Md. Safaet Hossain.
The webinar provided valuable insights into the challenge, inspiring participants to form teams and develop innovative solutions to space-related problems. The event’s success underscores UITS’ commitment to fostering innovation and providing students with opportunities to engage in global challenges.
